I spent the first year of Covid living alone in the middle of nowhere. I found that the silence and isolation was actually a magical time for my own creative and spiritual life, as well as my connection to nature. I found myself increasingly fascinated by the idea of what it would be like to spend one’s life absolutely separated from the world. What would the most extreme version of this fantasy be like? Has anyone ever lived a life completely separated from culture?

It turns out there was at least one family - a Russian family that lived alone in the Siberian wilderness, who went undetected for half a century. When they were discovered by a team of Soviet Geologists in the year 1978, they had been removed from the world for so long that they didn’t even know that World War II had occurred. This story came back to me during the early days of the pandemic and it served as the inspiration for THE SNOW FOREST. 

In my novel, you’ll get to live alongside a very radical family in the snow forest as they struggle to survive in total isolation, and you’ll also follow the incredible journey of the one unlikely woman whose life is set on a path where she will become the first human they encounter in many decades. I don’t want to give too much away, but this encounter will shatter and change all their lives and be stranger and more miraculous than anyone might have imagined.

I will say only this for now: There is literal magic in this story.
